About Me
My name is Ryan Nohr. I was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1986. I stayed in Green Bay until I was 18, when I moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for college. In 2004 I began attending the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science. While in school I was involved in a number of different campus organizations, including hall government, the Oshkosh Student Association, United Council of UW Students, and the Computer Science club.
Video games have been a passion of mine since I was young, and I have had an interest in creating them as long as I have been playing them. While UW Oshkosh did not actually have a degree in computer visualization or gaming, I did my best to focus my elective classes in a direction that would get me an understanding of some of the basic concepts of computer gaming, such as Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Graphics.
In my senior year, fall 2007, I took on an independent study with several classmates. The focus of this study was game engine design. We worked on a small scope Multiplayer Online game. We built a game engine from the ground up, from design to implementation. My work was quite varied on this project, but primarily I worked on many of the utilities, such as error reporting, database back end and in game linking, and settings. I also worked on environment creation and gameplay for implementation of our engine.
In 2006, a friend and I formed Stone Monkey Studios, the name under which we typically develop our games. I graduated from UW Oshkosh in Spring of 2008 with a degree in Computer Science with a focus on software engineering. Since then I've worked on a variety of game projects, refining techniques and technologies with each project.
In August of 2010 Stone Monkey Studios was officially recognized as an LLC in the state of Washington, and we're well under way on our first commercial product. Check us out at http://stonemonkeystudios.com!
